It's not a nickname, and I'm not a third. According to my folks, the odd spelling name came from a mountain in North Georgia where I grew up. I always thought it was an Indian name or something. Turns out the mountain, near Unicoi, is flat on top. Like a tray.
I'm a writer, teacher, and illustrator currently living in Atlanta.
My short stories, essays, news, reviews, and humor pieces have appeared in a wide range of publications in the U.S. and Britain. I have a BA in journalism from the University of Georgia and an MA in creative writing from The University of London's Birkbeck College. I'm a regular contributor to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution and Creative Loafing. I also teach in the Creative Writing Certificate program at Emory Continuing Education.
My travel guide, Moon Atlanta, is available from Avalon Travel.
